In the nature (clic to enlarge) The commune has an area of 2197 hectares with only 215 permanent residents. At 652 m it is a typical perched provencal hill village. You will be impressed by the provencal architecture of the village houses. With its rich history and the diversity of its exceptional natural environment, Baudinard is one of the treasures of the Verdon.
In the village you will find vaulted passages, fortified walls and beautiful village houses, nearly all of them having vaulted cellars with their own well (originally served by the waters of a stream).
Canyons and prehistoric caves... In Baudinard, you can visit the Church of Saint Jacques, restored in 1921 and 2006 ; the Bridge Silvestre (built close to the remains of a roman bridge), or the three shrines (Ste Catherine, St Espero and St Etienne). The superb priory of Valmogne, recently restored (listed historical monment), can be reached via the Chemin des Croix du haut.
Outside the village, explore the area using the village footpaths. Discover which plants grow in Provence (footpath: Le Sentier Botanique - 2km), or walk up to the chapel Notre Dame de la Garde (footpath:Sentier du Museau de la Colline) 710 metres, from where you have an exceptional view over 6 regional departments!
Make time to see the "Gorge de Baudinard" which leads to the lower gorges of the Verdon, a truly turquoise waterway bordered by cliffs (100-150m high), interspersed with several caves, which contained prehistoric remains. These remains are displayed at the Museum of Prehistory in Quinson. Running alongside the Gorge is a footpath (Le Sentier des Basses Gorges, 13 km long) which promises fantastic views. The panorama, including the Lake of Sainte-Croix and the foothills of the Alps, is remarkable.
